Solitude..On a tree on a hill… Revist

This past Friday I has the pleasure of going on the Spiritual disciplines for Discipleship Class.  This time as a leader.

Friday night I lead a discussion on the Spiritual Disciplines which was awesome.  There was some great discussion on what it means to practice a Spiritual Discipline and to opportunity to try some of them.  Worship, Prayer and Solitude where the main focuses of the weekend.  (The whole DC class is centered around, Bible Reading, Bible Study, and Bible Memory.)

Saturday morning we had time for Solitude.   I watched the Sunrise in a different way.  I watched with the sun to my back.  I was amazed as the detail of the landscape was revealed.  Shapeless and gray turned brilliant and beautiful as trees became visible and the colors burst forth.  I never once turned to look where the sun was in the sky, I just kept watching in amazement as more and more light brought out more and more detail.  I got the feeling this is how the light of God will shine in heaven.   We will know the source of the light and the details of heaven will be revealed in that light.

Rev 22: 5 There will be no more night. They will not need the light of a lamp or the light of the sun, for the Lord God will give them light. And they will reign for ever and ever.

As I stood there and watched I remembered and old post I wrote after the Spiritual disciplines retreat 2 years ago.   About the trees of the forest….

——————————

Be still and know I am God…

Be still and know I am…

Be still and know…

Be Still…

During the time of solitude Saturday morning I started thinking about all the trees, and how all the trees start from little acorns or seeds. One tree, can lead to the growth of thousands of other trees.  As a tree grows and sprouts branches that reach out over the ground, it grows leaves, and develops seeds.  The seeds at the end of the far reaching branches fall off onto the ground; some seeds are covered by the falling leaves while others are left on bare ground. More trees sprout from the covered seeds and the process continues until a whole forest of trees is present.

To me as a Christian the most important tree is the one that held my savior at his death. This tree was planted by the sin of man. As it was raised into place, Christ’s arms were spread out wide. Blood from his hands and feet spilled onto the ground. Each drop of blood is a seed of faith. It is up to us to be covered by it, and let it sprout in our hearts. If we do, the seeds of our fruit will be spilled out for others to see.  More people will accept the seed of faith from our savior.

Christ’s blood seeded and will continue to seed the souls of many.

The retreat overall was awesome, and it was cool as the leader to watch as God’s Spirit bonded this group of men together.  To see them pray for each other, and learn from each other simply amazing.

Men learing to be Godly men, and become Disciples of Christ.  Awesome.

  1. WOW Glad you all had a good time in the LORD, and praising HIM for the bonding and for you taking leadership, and training other men to take their places in the Body Of Christ, and at home. Thats an answer to a prayer that I pray frequently. Praising HIM for solitude..priceless! Love ya Bro

  2. Carl: I think the idea of watching the sun rise with your back to the sun is a beautiful idea. What a fresh perspective and appreciation that would bring. I think that is also how God’s revelation to us works. His light shines on us and suddenly everything becomes much clearer.

    Beautiful brother!

  3. Wow that account of watching what the sunrise was illuminating was GREAT! I thought of this verse, “Proverbs 4:18
But the path of the righteous is like the light of dawn, That shines brighter and brighter until the full day.” Lots for chewing on there. Good thoughts!
