Listen for wisdom from the Good Shepard, and Follow Him.
John 10 Blogged Bible Study.
Solomon speaks of seeking and listening to wisdom.
Prov 8
4 “To you, O men, I call out;
I raise my voice to all mankind.5 You who are simple, gain prudence;
you who are foolish, gain understanding.6 Listen, for I have worthy things to say;
I open my lips to speak what is right.7 My mouth speaks what is true,
for my lips detest wickedness.8 All the words of my mouth are just;
none of them is crooked or perverse.9 To the discerning all of them are right;
they are faultless to those who have knowledge.
What better wisdom to listen for, hear and follow?
John 10
2The man who enters by the gate is the shepherd of his sheep. 3The watchman opens the gate for him, and the sheep listen to his voice. He calls his own sheep by name and leads them out.
14“I am the good shepherd; I know my sheep and my sheep know me— 15just as the Father knows me and I know the Father—and I lay down my life for the sheep. 16I have other sheep that are not of this sheep pen. I must bring them also. They too will listen to my voice, and there shall be one flock and one shepherd.
Why should we seek, listen and follow this wisdom?
Prov 8
10 Choose my instruction instead of silver,
knowledge rather than choice gold,11 for wisdom is more precious than rubies,
and nothing you desire can compare with her.

verse 16 sticks out to me in John 10…”I have other sheep…will bring them to pen with these sheep..one shepherd and one flock”. Is this the first place that shows two different, and is this jews/gentiles…and is the first sound of unity mentioned? I know I know I should have wrote about it…but it only hit me right now.
Carl: Seeing these passages together opens up some very interesting ideas to explore.
Thanks!
The fear of the LORD is the beginning of wisdom, And the knowledge of the Holy One is understanding. ~Proverbs 9:10
Darla… I look at the other sheep as being Moses, David, Joshua, Abraham..The prophets…Etc. I am not sure if that includes the Jews who do not believe of not. That is a good question.
Joe — I was reading Prov 8 preparing for my Discipleship Class this morning when I read the section on wisdom. My whole post for John 10 changed in an instant.
Michelle… AMEN to that.
Peace all
“for wisdom is more precious than rubies, and nothing you can desire compares with her…”
I have always loved that verse…maybe if I was filthy rich I wouldn’t, but it is true. What’s interesting (as I recently pointed out in the comment section on my blog) is many scholars believe that references in proverbs and elswhere in scripture to “wisdom” actually refer to Christ. Makes sense in this passage.
Munch munch. I love wisdom. LOVE Michelle’s comment. That verse was pivotal for me. I studied wisdom for awhile (wisdom is one of the seven spirits of God, which God has off and on been opening up to me over the last several years – wisdom is the one I’ve gone into the most depth on so far.) In reading so much that the Bible has to say on wisdom, I came to the question of how to tell God’s wisdom from man’s wisdom. There is that passage in … somewhere … “the wisdom that is from above is first peaceable …” But I think I wanted more than that. That verse in Prov clinched it for me. “Knowledge of the Holy One.” Any ‘wisdom’ that is not built on a knowledge of God is not God’s wisdom. It is man’s wisdom. Anyhoo. Love the thoughts on wisdom.
